Dolceacqua: History, Stone, and Poetry

In the heart of the enchanting Val Nervia, nestled among gentle hills and surrounded by the most authentic Ligurian nature, lies Dolceacqua—one of the most fascinating medieval villages in Liguria.
Set along the banks of the stream that bears its name, this small town—home to just over 2,000 residents—safeguards a unique heritage of history, traditions, art, and legends.

The village is divided into two souls, connected by a famous arched stone bridge that even inspired painter Claude Monet, who was deeply struck by its beauty.

The older part, called Terra (or Téra in the local dialect), is a charming tangle of narrow alleys, stone arches, stairways, and covered passages. Overlooking everything from above stands the majestic Doria Castle, a symbol of medieval power and guardian of fascinating stories and ancient mysteries.

On the other side of the stream lies Il Borgo, the more modern section of the village, which developed along the road climbing the valley. Here, you'll find artisan workshops, small shops, traditional trattorias, and cultural spaces that reflect the present-day life of a community still deeply connected to its roots.

Dolceacqua is much more than just a village—it’s a journey through time, a place where the past still speaks through stone, stories, and traditions passed down from generation to generation.
Perfect for those seeking authenticity, beauty, and tranquility, it’s a must-visit stop for anyone exploring the Ligurian hinterland.
